The Overfield Tavern Museum and the Museum of Troy History are announcing their combined Christmas Open Houses to be held on December 15th from 1 pm to 5 pm. They are free and open to the public. The museums are located across from each other on Water Street at the Mulberry Street intersection in Troy.

Traditional Christmas puddings will be prepared throughout the afternoon at the 1808 Overfield Tavern by Mrs. Overfield. The People of the Ohio Country, a group of historic interpreters that portray people who lived in Miami County in 1808, will be working on making everyday items and giving informative tours of the tavern. Overfield Tavern books will be available for sale in support of the museum and its mission to promote early Troy history.

The Museum of Troy History, which is located in a home built by John Kitchen in 1847, will showcase its Victorian Parlor with a Christmas tree decorated by David Fair and a traditional feather tree. Antique toys from the 1800’s and early 1900’s will be on display. The late 1800’s Parlour Grand Piano (a gift from Arthur and Gail Haddad) will be used by students of Edie Demmit to play traditional Christmas carols at 3 PM. Barrie Van Kirk, from the Troy Civic Theater, will recite “Twas the Night Before Christmas” by the fireplace. Punch and homemade refreshments will be served.
